Great Endeavour

Age: 8

Trainer: David Pipe

Notable Race Wins:-

Byrne Group Plate: 2010

Great Endeavour started his career out with David Pipe in fine style as he racked up a trio of victories in his first three starts, but then somewhat disappointed when finishing 17th in the 2009 Coral Cup.

However, it would be the chasing game that he would excel at and he quickly made an impression over the larger obstacles when bagging a comfortable novice success at Towcester.  The seven-year-old may have headed to the 2010 Cheltenham Festival on the back of a brace of defeats, but the Pond House inmate stormed to victory in the Byrne Group Plate beating Sunnyhillboy by one-and-a-quarter lengths.

Many thought that would be the catalyst for his career to continue on the upgrade, but he finished sixth in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Prestbury Park the following season when quietly fancied before just being touched off in the Vote AP Gold Cup a month later.

He returned to the Festival in 2011 and was in with a squeak when falling in the closing stages of the Stewart Family Spinal Research Handicap Chase to show he still has massive potential over fences.

No doubt he is bound to come on for another season at Pipe's headquarters and he could well be a lively contender for the Ryanair Chase at the 2012 Festival as well as the Paddy Power Gold Cup.

Likely to be contesting some competitive contests throughout the season the seven-year-old grey is certainly one to keep an eye on and is one of Pipe's leading hopes for the 2011/2012 season.

Potential Races for 2011/2012 Season

Paddy Power Gold Cup

Ryanair Chase

Form for 2011/2012 Season

  • 12/11/11 - Paddy Power Gold Cup - Cheltenham (1st of 20 - SP 8/1) - Great Endeavour was an emphatic winner of the Paddy Power Gold Cup and is certainly a horse to keep on the right side of as he stormed to a seven length win in the competitive contest.  A sublime ride from Timmy Murphy saw him cruise to the front three fences from home and he duly pulled clear impressively to beat Quantitativeeasing.
  • 26/11/11 - Hennessy Gold Cup - Newbury (4th of 18 - SP 5/1) - Supporters of Great Endeavour must've been confident as Timmy Murphy stalked the leaders round the inside turning for home.  However, the distress signals were sent out two from home as Great Endeavour failed to pick up and was left to finish fourth behind Carruthers in a cracking renewal of the Hennessy Gold Cup.
  • 10/12/11 - December Gold Cup - Cheltenham (1th of 16 - SP 8/1) - Trying to bag a big race Cheltenham double, Great Endeavour lost all chance of adding the December Gold Cup to his Paddy Power crown when making a huge mistake at the 10th fence.  Ploughing through the fence, Timmy Murphy did well to keep the partnership intact, but his chance was gone and eventually finshed way off the back.
