Yet another of Nicky Henderson's star performers, Finian's Rainbow will be looking to cement his place as one of the leading 2m chasers in training and the ultimate goal is set to come on the second day of the 2013 Cheltenham Festival, as he bids to secure back-to-back Queen Mother Champion Chase victories.

His epic, yet controversial duel with Sizing Europe on the 2m blue riband event was one of the real treats of the Prestbury Park extravaganza and even though the dolling off of the last fence may have worked to the Seven Barrows' inmate's advantage, he still picked up in stunning fashion to take the prize.

A superb performance in the Melling Chase at Aintree cemented his place at the pinnacle of the division, but the 2012/2013 season will see him take on star novice and stablemate Sprinter Sacre in what will be a phenomenal battle come March.

With Henderson's emerging star heading the ante-post betting, many feel that Finian's Rainbow could be overpowered by his neighbour, but with multiple Graded wins next to his name, he will surely be a lively challenger and has to warrant respect.

No doubt Henderson will choose to keep them apart as the season progresses and the likes of the Tingle Creek Chase and Victor Chandler Chase could be on Finian's Rainbow's me menu, but the one he will be eager to win is the Champion Chase in what will be an intriguing contest come the second day of the Cheltenham Festival.

Form For 2012/2013 Season

  • 24/11/12 - Amlin 1965 Chase - Ascot (4th of 4 - SP 5/6 Fav) - A fairly uninspiring effort first time out from Finian's Rainbow saw the reigning Champion Chaser finish fourth of four in the Amlin 1965 Chase at Ascot.  Sent off a short-priced 5/6 favourite, the Nicky Henderson-trained star was unable to get on terms with the likes of Captain Chris and For Non Stop in going that was far from ideal and he was handed an easy task after Barry Geraghty realised he wouldn't be winning.
