Bobs Worth

Age: 7

Trainer: Nicky Henderson

Notable Race Wins:-

Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle: 2011

Classic Novices' Hurdle: 2011

RSA Chase: 2012

Bobs Worth was one of the most well-backed favourites at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival and Nicky Henderson's up-and-coming star showed why when storming to success in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle.

Having suffered defeat on his debut finishing second to Prince of Pirates, Bobs Worth has gone from strength to strength notching a multitude of novice hurdle victories during 2010 and 2011 and none were more impressive than his win at the Cheltenham Festival.

Stalking his rivals at the top of the hill Barry Geraghty cajoled the gelding to the front and he merely quickened up to beat classy stablemate Mossley by two-and-a-quarter lengths.

Now stepping out of the novice scene it's interesting to see whether Henderson will elect to send his emerging star over fences and have a tilt at the RSA Chase or will rather keep him over hurdles and take on the awesome Big Buck's in the World Hurdle.

With the former more likely, the six-year-old has already been installed as second favourite for the RSA Chase at next year's Cheltenham Festival behind Grands Crus and he is definitely one to keep an eye on, whatever route Henderson elects to take.

Form for 2011/2012 Season

  • 25/11/11 - Fuller's London Pride Novices' Chase - Newbury (1st of 4 - SP Evens Fav) - Bobs Worth made a winning start to his chasing career as he fought off Cue Card in a scintillating finish in Newbury's Fuller's London Pride Novices' Chase.  Having made a few sticky errors on his debut, the Albert Bartlett winner looked beaten jumping the last, but his stamina kicked in late on and he reeled in the former Champion Bumper winner to win by a short head and cement his place towards the head of the RSA Chase betting.
  • 26/12/11 - Feltham Novices' Chase - Newbury (3rd of 6 - SP 3/1) - Already getting the better of the classy Cue Card, Bobs Worth was handed an even tougher task on Boxing Day and he was subsequently trounced by Grands Crus, who ran away with the Grade One Feltham Novices' Chase at Kempton Park.  Never able to get on terms with the top notch grey, he was always being bustled along and when he made a mistake at the 12th was pretty much out of the reckoning and could only finish third.
  • 18/02/12 - Reynoldstown Novices' Chase - Ascot (2nd of 7 - SP 15/8) - Even though he was comfortably beaten by Invictus in the Reynoldstown Novices' Chase, Bobs Worth produced an encouraging display at Ascot and should be in fine order heading to the RSA Chase next month.  He showed yet again that stamina is his main asset and in a hotly-contested RSA is sure to be staying on
  • 14/03/12 - RSA Chase - Cheltenham (1st of 9 - SP 9/2) - Bobs Worth produced a majestic performance to bag his second Cheltenham Festival success, as he held off First Lieutenant to win the RSA Chase.  Turning the tables with Grands Crus, Henderson's star managed to storm past the grey in the closing stages and eventually got the better of First Lieutenant in a titanic battle.
